The JRA Programme (top)
The Junior REACH Ambassador Programme aims to empower youths to: a) reach out and introduce youths to how they can play a role in shaping government policies and national issues; b) motivate youths to become active and engaged citizens through involvement in REACH’s programmes; c) help spearhead feedback programmes in their schools; and d) promote and raise awareness of REACH as a citizen engagementplatform among youths.
-
Ultimately, we hope to increase the level of active citizenry among youths, i.e. youths are aware of the importance of the role they can play in the policy-making process, and also participate in feedback activities.
The two-pronged approach
As School Ambassadors, we would be catalysts of change in schools; promoting a feedback culture and engagement among peers; as well as to work with our teachers to organise student dialogues in schools.
As REACH Ambassadors, we would create greater awareness of REACH among peers, in addition to the creation of greater awareness at road-shows, dialogues et cetera.
The Hwa Chong JRA (top)
The Hwa Chong JRA team is made up of 5 committed students, each with our own unique and diverse strengths. All 5 of us are deeply interested and intent on instilling social consciousness in youths and government to amass material that can be used to catalyse positive change in social, political or economic issues.

To bring about the aforementioned, we are hoping to bring the government closer to the students and vice versa. By bringing the government to the students, we would be able to reduce political apathy; inform the general public (youth sector) about government policies and current domestic affairs. On the other hand, by bridging the gap between the students and the government, we could collate feedback on policies and issues as well as to prepare youths to take over as future leaders of Singapore and contribute to the society.
Sandra (08S76) is one who has a thirst for knowledge and zest for life. An ex-student of Methodist Girls’ School, she took the posts of Head of the Student Affairs Committee in her school’s Prefectorial Board as well as Company Leader of the MGS Girl Guides. In addition, Sandra is a member of the Youth Assembly in the North West CDC as well as a member of the youths.care organizing committee. Sandra is determined to use her adopted leadership and organizational skills, as well as her past experiences, to form a bridge between Hwa Chong students and the Singapore government. It is indeed in her belief that everyone has a voice and a part to play in the upbringing of the society.
Melissa (08A14) is friendly and ambitious. She hopes to work in the government someday. She was not born with the talent for organisation but has accumulated a fair amount of experience and is honoured to have the chance to serve you as a Hwa Chong Junior Reach Ambassador. She enjoys theatre and music, which is irrelevant to her role as a JRA. The issues she is most passionate about are women’s rights, youth activism, and world peace (really), which is relevant to her role as a JRA.If and when you turn up for JRA-related events, Melissa Yoong would like to make friends with you.
Hong Sheng (08S63) is highly approachable with his fun-loving and easy-going nature. Guided by his principle of giving his best in what he has set foot on, he is always determined to accomplish what he believes in. Being a JRA is a treasured opportunity that allows him to work on initiatives aimed at promoting youth activism in Singapore
Jin Yao (08A14) is a passionate youth who has always taken a keen interest towards politics and diplomacy. His interest in diplomacy has seen his participation in the Harvard Model United Nations and organisation of The Hague International Model United Nations (Singapore). His 4 years of experience in the Hwa Chong Students' Council has granted him with valuable administrative and leadership skills. He also believes that it is important to contribute back to the society in any way possible and necessary. In addition to his membership in the Canberra (Jeluntung) Youth Executive Committee, he is also a proud member of Project WiTHIN.
Karen (08A12) is one who believes in living life to the fullest- her active school record is testament to that. As the President of the 28th Student Council and the Vice-Captain of the Athletics Team back in high school (River Valley High School), she has garnered much leadership experience which she hopes to put to good use through service to society, hence her role as a JRA.
